In a thrilling IPL 2025 face-off, Punjab Kings (PBKS) outclassed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 18 runs, largely thanks to Priyansh Arya’s sensational century. His rapid 39-ball hundred, packed with boundaries and sixes, laid the foundation for PBKS’s commanding total of 219/6. Shashank Singh also played a crucial role, finishing strong with a composed half-century.
CSK began their chase with high hopes but struggled early, losing Ruturaj Gaikwad and Iyer cheaply. Despite Devon Conway's 69 off 49 balls and a solid partnership with Shivam Dube, who scored 42, the team fell behind the asking rate. Lockie Ferguson disrupted the momentum by dismissing Dube, while Conway was tactically retired out during the 18th over in a surprise move. The target looked increasingly out of reach.
Enter MS Dhoni, walking in at No.5 to a roaring crowd. He turned back the clock with some vintage strokeplay, hammering 27 off just 12 deliveries, including back-to-back sixes and a four. His cameo stirred hope among CSK fans, but with 28 needed off the final over, the mountain proved too steep. Yash Thakur sealed the game for PBKS, dismissing Dhoni with a deceptive full toss.
PBKS’s fielding had its shaky moments, including dropped catches and misfields, but their batting firepower and key breakthroughs at vital times made the difference. For CSK, despite moments of brilliance, the defeat highlighted issues with early wickets and inconsistent middle-order performance. Priyansh Arya was rightfully named Player of the Match for his match-winning innings.
