Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended heartfelt congratulations to Dr Meenakshi Jain, a former Delhi University professor and acclaimed historian from Gargi College, on her Rajya Sabha nomination by President Murmu on July 13, 2025 .

In a series of posts on X, PM Modi praised Dr Jain’s exemplary career, noting that her work in education, literature, history, and political science has “enriched academic discourse significantly.” He described her nomination as “a matter of immense joy,” acknowledging her distinguished scholarly contributions.

Dr Jain, known for exploring India's cultural and religious heritage and for authored works like The Battle for Rama, Sati: Evangelicals..., and Flight of Deities and Rebirth of Temples, was awarded the Padma Shri in 2020 . Her academic tenure at Delhi University, including her current role as a Senior Fellow at the Indian Council of Social Science Research, has shaped generations of students.

The PM added that Dr Jain’s arrival in the Upper House is expected to bring “valuable insight and experience,” enhancing the quality of parliamentary debates
