Sheikh Hasina indicted for crimes against humanity in Bangladesh!

A special tribunal in Dhaka on July 10, 2025, formally indicted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on charges of crimes against humanity, related to her government’s violent crackdown on protesters in 2024 . The court accepted five counts, including abetment, incitement, and conspiracy, tied to widespread violence during the mass uprising, which claimed hundreds of lives.

Hasina, along with ex‑Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and former police chief Chowdhury Abdullah Al‑Mamun, were prosecuted in absentia - both Hasina and Khan are in India following her resignation and escape in August . Al‑Mamun, who appeared in court, pleaded guilty and offered to testify for the prosecution .

The interim government, led by Muhammad Yunus, has also formally requested India to extradite Hasina, calling New Delhi’s silence “no longer tenable”. The tribunal’s next session will feature the prosecutor’s opening statement on August 3, followed by witness testimony beginning August 4.

This development dramatically escalates cross-border legal and diplomatic tensions between Dhaka and New Delhi, as Bangladesh moves to hold its former leader accountable for alleged human rights violations.
