Water is essential for most living creatures, but surprisingly, some animals survive without ever drinking it. Instead of drinking water directly, these animals get the moisture they need from food, metabolism, or their surroundings. Their bodies have evolved special adaptations that help them survive in extremely dry environments like deserts.
One fascinating example is the Kangaroo Rat, which survives entirely on dry seeds. Its body produces water during digestion and conserves it through highly efficient kidneys. Similarly, Fennec Foxes and Sand Foxes get moisture from the prey and desert plants they eat while staying active mostly at night to avoid heat.
Koalas receive most of their hydration from eucalyptus leaves. Harvester Ants obtain water by metabolizing fats from seeds. Jerboas also get moisture from plants and insects while their nocturnal lifestyle reduces water loss.
Another remarkable survivor is the Thorny Devil Lizard, which absorbs moisture through its skin, collecting dew and rain in dry habitats.
