This common pen mistake may ruin your UPSC Mains exam!

In the UPSC Mains exam, even the smallest choices-like which pen to use-can impact your score. Aspirants are allowed to use only black or blue pens-either ballpoint or gel pens. However, pencils are not permitted, except for making diagrams.

Experts suggest that ballpoint pens are the best choice for UPSC aspirants. They help increase writing speed, which is crucial for completing all questions in time. Gel pens, while smoother and more vibrant, often smudge easily and can slow you down.

It’s also advised to practice writing with the exact pen you plan to use in the exam. This helps improve hand control, speed, and reduces last-minute surprises.

Since UPSC Mains is a descriptive test, the focus should be on clarity, neatness, and speed. Choosing the right pen, writing every day, and timing your practice answers can greatly improve your overall performance.
