India’s top decathlete Tejaswin Shankar has rewritten national history yet again! At the Wieslaw Czapiewski Memorial 2025 athletics meet in Poland, he set a new national record in the decathlon by scoring 7,826 points, surpassing his own previous record of 7,666 points.
The 26-year-old athlete finished fourth overall, but the achievement holds immense value as it marks India's continued rise in multi-sport events. His earlier record came with a silver medal at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.
The gold at the event was bagged by Czechia’s Ondrej Kopecky, who not only topped the table but also set an all-time meet record with 8,254 points. His countryman Vilem Strasky came second, while Estonia’s Risto Lillemets secured third place.
Tejaswin’s achievement is seen as a major step toward qualifying for future international events, including the Olympics. Known for his versatility and athletic discipline, he has become one of the most promising faces of Indian athletics.
With this new milestone, Shankar continues to inspire aspiring athletes across the country and strengthens India’s position in global track and field events.
