On August 14, 2025, Delhi and the surrounding NCR - including Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad - faced relentless early-morning downpours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) escalated its warning from yellow to red, forecasting continued rainfall through August 17 .
Water accumulated rapidly across low-lying localities such as Lajpat Nagar, RK Puram, Lodhi Road, and the Delhi–Haryana border, as well as Outer Ring Road near Subroto Park and Basai Road in Gurugram. The result: severe waterlogging and snarled traffic as vehicles crawled through flooded streets during peak hours .
Authorities urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel; traffic police and civic teams have mobilized to clear drains, deploy pumps, and manage traffic flow . The deluge comes as India prepares for upcoming Independence Day events, and while sudden showers brought temporary relief from the heat, they also laid bare urban drainage weaknesses and infrastructure challenges in accommodating monsoon fury.
