Fresh graduate? 7 CV hacks to land your first job fast!

Creating an effective graduate CV is essential for job applications, especially when work experience is limited. The following seven tips help in making a professional and impactful CV:

  1. Include a personal statement – Begin with a short introduction about who you are, your career goals, and what you can offer, tailored to the specific job.

  2. Focus on education – Since fresh graduates may lack extensive work experience, highlight educational qualifications, relevant coursework, grades, projects, and academic achievements.

  3. List any work experience – Include even unrelated jobs if they demonstrate transferable skills such as teamwork, communication, or leadership.

  4. Only list relevant hobbies and interests – Mention hobbies that align with the role or industry to show additional skills or enthusiasm.

  5. Keep it simple – Use a clean, easy-to-read format with concise points, avoiding over-design or lengthy details; ideally, fit on one page.

  6. Add references – Include at least two references (academic and professional) or state “available upon request” if you prefer not to share details immediately.

  7. Go through rounds of edits – Proofread for errors, review after a break, read aloud for flow, and get feedback from others, like a career advisor.

In short, a graduate CV should clearly present education, relevant skills, and personality in a simple, tailored, and error-free format.
