NHRC launches two-week online internship to train next-gen human rights defenders!

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has launched a two-week online short-term internship programme in New Delhi, beginning August 12, to educate university students on the principles and importance of human rights. A total of 80 students from varied disciplines such as law, political science, social work, journalism, and sociology have been shortlisted for this edition.

NHRC Member Justice (Dr) Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi highlighted that protecting human rights is essential to ensuring dignity, liberty, equality, and justice in society. He stressed that citizens must not only safeguard their own rights but also respect and protect the rights of others.

The internship features 46 sessions covering a broad spectrum of human rights issues. These include constitutional provisions, landmark court rulings, and challenges in areas like gender equality, prison reforms, child protection, and the rights of marginalised groups. The sessions will be conducted by subject experts, offering participants both theoretical and practical perspectives.

To enhance engagement, the programme includes group research presentations, book reviews, declamation contests, and a virtual tour of Tihar Jail to help interns understand prison conditions and rehabilitation initiatives.

This internship bridges the gap between academic learning and real-world application, aiming to build a new generation of socially conscious leaders. By empowering students with knowledge and practical skills, NHRC hopes to foster a culture of empathy, justice, and accountability in the country.
