At a time when sustainability is often seen as expensive and niche, Indian startup Ecoright is challenging that perception by making eco-friendly products both affordable and fashionable. Founded in 2019 by IIM Calcutta alumni Nikita Barmecha and Udit Sood, the brand emerged from a simple observation — most sustainable alternatives fail to scale because they are either costly or impractical for everyday consumers.
Ecoright began with reusable tote bags but quickly expanded into a wide portfolio of more than 300 products, including handbags, backpacks, and accessories made from organic cotton, jute, and recycled PET bottles. By focusing on high-utility items used daily, the company positioned sustainability as a default choice rather than a lifestyle compromise.
The strategy has paid off. The startup’s revenue grew nearly 60%, rising from ₹8.82 crore in FY24 to ₹14.08 crore in FY25, driven largely by online marketplaces and quick-commerce platforms. Improved logistics planning and faster delivery models further strengthened growth.
Looking ahead, Ecoright plans to expand into lifestyle categories like home décor and travel while exploring international markets — proving that sustainability can scale when affordability meets smart design.
