Instagram is making a major change in India-and it’s all about protecting teenagers online. With the new update, Instagram has introduced stricter rules for users under 18.
Now, all teen accounts are automatically set to a “13+ content mode”, meaning they will only see content suitable for their age. They cannot turn this off on their own-parental permission is required.
The platform is also tightening control on what teens can access. Content with strong language, risky stunts, or harmful behaviour will be limited or completely hidden. Even posts related to alcohol, drugs, or sensitive topics will be harder to find.
Another big change is interaction control. Teens won’t be able to follow or interact with accounts that regularly post inappropriate content. These accounts also won’t be able to message or engage with teens.
Search and recommendations are also getting stricter. Certain keywords and content won’t appear-even if searched differently.
For parents, there’s an extra “Limited Content” mode, which applies even stricter filters.
Overall, Instagram is trying to create a safer, more controlled digital space for teenagers.
