"No pain, no gain" might sound motivating, but overexerting yourself at the gym can put your heart at serious risk. According to Dr. Nimit Shah, excessive workouts without proper rest can trigger cardiac arrest, especially in people with heart conditions, high blood pressure, obesity, or a family history of heart disease.
Warning signs include chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, fatigue, and irregular heartbeat. Ignoring these symptoms can be dangerous.
Start with moderate intensity, take rest days seriously, hydrate well, and monitor your heart rate. If you're in a high-risk group, consult a doctor before beginning intense workouts. A simple stress test can save your life.
Remember - fitness should build strength, not break your heart. Train smart, not just hard.
