In a bold move that could redefine how Indians learn emerging tech, upGrad has announced a strategic partnership with OpenAI to integrate advanced generative AI capabilities directly into its education offerings — making it the first Indian skilling platform to do so. The announcement was made at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 and marks a shift from basic AI exposure to applied AI skills embedded deeply in coursework and real-world projects.

Under this collaboration, upGrad will incorporate tools like ChatGPT, OpenAI Codex, and the ChatGPT Atlas browser across its curriculum to give learners seamless access to state-of-the-art AI capabilities. Students can expect dedicated ChatGPT Foundations certifications, AI-enhanced Engineering and Data Labs, and research and workflow automation through Atlas’s native “Agent Mode.” These integrations are designed to help learners move beyond simple prompting toward technical utility and creative problem solving using generative AI.

Commenting on the partnership, upGrad co-founder Ronnie Screwvala said the initiative is part of a broader vision to make AI skills a core part of India’s workforce DNA, democratizing access to powerful tools once limited to elite developers.
