Discipline is often seen as a personality trait, but experts say it’s actually a skill that can be trained like a muscle. Psychotherapist Delnna Rrajesh explains that many people struggle with discipline not because they lack willpower, but because they lack a system that makes good habits easier to follow.
One effective strategy is the two-minute rule-starting a task for just two minutes. Reading one page, doing a single push-up, or writing one sentence can create momentum and make the habit easier to continue. Experts also suggest habit stacking, where new habits are attached to existing routines, such as meditating after brushing your teeth or journaling after morning tea.
Reducing distractions is another key step. Keeping phones away during work or setting up reminders can make discipline easier to maintain. Celebrating small achievements also helps reinforce positive behaviour. Over time, these small actions train the brain to build stronger, lasting habits.
