Who runs the universe while lord vishnu sleeps during chaturmas?

Every year, on Devshayani Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu enters a cosmic slumber on the Shesha Nāg in the Kṣīra‑sāgara, marking the four-month period known as Chaturmas. But with the preserver of the universe resting, who steps in to maintain cosmic order?

According to Times of India, the responsibility is shared sequentially:

  • Guru Pūrṇimā: Gurus and teachers uphold dharma and guide seekers immediately after Devshayani Ekadashi.

  • Śiva (Shrāvaṇa Month): From July to August, Shiva is revered as the cosmic maintainer, with devotees engaging in prayer, meditation, and austerities .

  • Krishna (Bhādrapada Month): In August–September, Krishna, an avatar of Vishnu, carries forward divine play and divine guidance via janmāṣṭamī and Leela-centric festivities.

  • Ganesha (Ganesh Chaturthi): In early autumn, Ganesha—the remover of obstacles - presides, ensuring positivity during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations .

  • Durgā (Navrātri): The nine-night festival sees Durga taking charge, vanquishing evil and safeguarding equilibrium.

  • Lakṣmī and Kuber (Diwali): Finally, during Diwali, Goddess Lakshmi and Kuber uphold prosperity and wealth until Dev Uthāni Ekadashi resumes Vishnu’s cosmic role .

Lord Vishnu's sleep isn’t abandonment - it’s a divine delegation, ensuring the universe remains in capable hands while followers reflect, celebrate, and worship across Chaturmas’s spiritual tapestry.
