Along the ghats of Varanasi, where thousands gather for rituals and celebrations, 75-year-old Rajkumar has found beauty in what most people throw away.
Every day, he walks along the riverbanks collecting discarded wedding cards, broken bangles, paper scraps, cloth, and bits of metal left behind after ceremonies. What looks like waste to others becomes raw material for his creativity.
With patience and imagination, Rajkumar transforms these forgotten objects into colourful wall hangings, sculptures, and decorative artworks. Each creation carries fragments of celebrations and memories, turning leftovers from weddings and daily life into something meaningful.
His work quietly highlights an important message - sustainability doesn’t always need modern technology. In many ways, India has long practiced reuse and resourcefulness as part of everyday life.
Visitors and locals often stop to watch him work, amazed at how pieces of broken bangles and old paper slowly turn into vibrant art.
Through his craft, Rajkumar reminds us that nothing is truly useless - sometimes it just needs a different perspective.
