10-minute delivery sounds cool… but here’s the scary reality!

India’s obsession with 10-minute deliveries has changed how cities consume food and groceries. But behind the speed lies a tougher reality for gig workers who keep this system running. For them, the biggest struggle isn’t racing against the clock - it’s uncertainty.
Most gig workers deal with unstable earnings, changing incentives, and long working hours just to make ends meet. A slow day can mean very low income, while a small app glitch or customer complaint can lead to penalties. There’s little room to explain or appeal.
Safety is another major concern. Long shifts, traffic pressure, night deliveries, and the constant fear of ratings push riders to take risks. While gig work is now officially recognised, basic protections like health insurance, accident cover, and income security often remain out of reach.
What workers really want is simple: fair pay, clear rules, human support, and safer working conditions. Experts believe even small changes - like slightly longer delivery windows and better accountability - could make a big difference.
The future of gig work shouldn’t just be fast. It should be fair.
