Delhi-NCR experienced heavy rainfall and thunderstorms on Friday morning, offering much-needed relief from the relentless heatwave. However, the intense downpour caused widespread disruption across the region. In Najafgarh, tragedy struck when an uprooted tree collapsed onto a farm structure, killing a woman and her three children. Elsewhere, several roads were submerged due to waterlogging, leading to severe traffic snarls and delays for commuters. The extreme weather also disrupted flight operations at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. The airport authority issued an advisory, confirming flight delays and urging passengers to check with airlines for updated schedules. On-ground teams worked swiftly to restore normalcy, and airport operations have since resumed.
Despite the challenges, residents welcomed the temporary escape from the scorching temperatures. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued thunderstorms and rain over the next two days, warning of further gusty winds and waterlogging risks. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely.
