A tragic incident unfolded in Delhi's Dwarka early Friday when a woman and her three children lost their lives after a tree, uprooted by fierce winds and heavy rain, collapsed onto a tubewell room, causing its roof to cave in. The woman's husband, Ajay, sustained minor injuries. The severe weather swept across Delhi-NCR, bringing much-needed relief from an intense heatwave but also leaving a trail of disruption- including waterlogging, uprooted trees, and widespread traffic snarls. Key areas like Moti Bagh, RK Puram, and Dwarka Underpass saw heavy water accumulation.
Delhi minister Parvesh Verma confirmed that unseasonal rainfall and a burst pipe worsened the waterlogging, despite active pumping efforts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert, forecasting thunderstorms, gusty winds, and rain for the next three days. With winds reaching speeds of 70-80 kmph, the capital braces for more showers while civic agencies ramp up drain-cleaning operations to mitigate flooding risks.
