As of June 7, 2025, Assam's flood situation has shown marginal improvement, with major rivers like the Brahmaputra beginning to recede. The affected population has decreased from over 5.6 lakh to approximately 4.43 lakh across 18 districts, including Cachar, Nagaon, and Morigaon.
Despite the receding waters, the Brahmaputra continues to flow above danger levels in Dhubri, while rivers like Kopili, Barak, and Kushiyara remain swollen in certain areas.
No new casualties have been reported in the past 24 hours, maintaining the death toll at 21. However, a person is reported missing in Kamrup (Metro) district. Over 40,000 individuals are currently sheltered in 328 relief camps, with more than 1.19 lakh receiving aid from distribution centers.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has conducted multiple visits to the flood-affected Barak Valley, assuring timely rehabilitation and infrastructure repairs before the Durga Puja festivities.
Wildlife has also been impacted, with approximately 70% of the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary inundated, prompting animals to seek higher ground.
While the situation is gradually improving, authorities continue to monitor the conditions closely, especially with forecasts predicting thunderstorms and lightning in several districts.
