On June 22, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian following U.S. airstrikes on Iran's nuclear facilities—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Modi conveyed “deep concern at the recent escalations,” advocating “immediate de‑escalation, dialogue and diplomacy” as essential for restoring regional stability.
The strikes, executed with B‑2 stealth bombers and bunker‑busting bombs, were hailed as a “very successful attack” by U.S. President Trump. Iran condemned the operation as a “savage assault” and warned of “everlasting consequences,” asserting it would “reserve all options” for response.
India’s diplomatic outreach reflects its strategic caution: with significant diaspora and economic interests in the Gulf, New Delhi is monitoring oil market volatility and ensuring the safety of its citizens abroad. Historical ties with Iran—ranging from Chabahar port investments to cultural links—add layers to India’s response.
Global reactions vary: while the UK, Turkey, and Russia warn of escalation risk, Prime Minister Modi stands alongside calls from EU leaders for diplomacy over confrontation. With the situation on a knife-edge, India continues to urge all parties to engage through dialogue and avoid further destabilisation.
