WaPas (Walking Past) is a mobile app built by four Class 12 students from Shiv Nadar School in Noida - Vihaan Tampi, Arnav Vij, Aryan Bardeja, and Karissa Gupta - with the mission to reconnect people with Delhi’s hidden heritage. The name is a clever play on words: “wa‑pas” means both walking past monuments and “going back” in Hindi.
Using GPS, geotagging, and augmented reality, WaPas notifies users whenever they pass one of 500+ curated historical sites. It offers audio guides, detailed stories, bookmarking features, and interactive walking trails. The app was developed with Adobe mentorship to ensure user-friendly design during a hectic board examination period.
While researching, the team unearthed surprising discoveries: Stone Age tools in Delhi’s outskirts and rocks tied to freedom fighters Bhagat Singh and Chandrashekhar Azad - stories few locals knew. WaPas has already garnered 2,000+ downloads in beta, earned recognition from heritage educators, and was showcased at a national innovation event. Future plans include expanding to other Indian cities, adding Android availability, multilingual content, VR tours, and working with tourism partners.
