Chandrapuram Ponnusamy (C. P.) Radhakrishnan was sworn in today as the 15th Vice-President of India in a formal ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan, the oath administered by President Droupadi Murmu at about 10:10 AM.
Radhakrishnan, 67, won the vice-presidential election on September 9, defeating the joint opposition candidate B. Sudershan Reddy by a margin of 152 votes, securing 452 votes to Reddy’s 300. His nomination was backed by the National Democratic Alliance.
The vacancy arose after Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from the vice-presidential office on July 21, citing health reasons. In a notable moment, Dhankhar was present for the oath-taking, marking his first public appearance since his resignation. The event was attended by top dignitaries including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, other Union ministers, and former officials
