From War to Weddings: The epic journey of Monginis Cakes!

Monginis, the cake shop we’ve all grown up loving, was born in 1902 in Bombay thanks to two entrepreneurial Italian brothers, the Monginis. They set up their first café and confectionery on Churchgate Street - Mongini Ltd - which quickly became a hotspot for elegant Easter bazaars and European-style indulgence. Its stylish setup attracted the city’s elite for confectioneries, dinners, and music evenings.

However, the chapter under its founders closed after World War II when the brothers departed India, and the business changed hands. In 1956, the Khorakiwala family acquired the café and incorporated it into their department store, Akbarallys. The locals’ love for Monginis’ cakes prevailed - and the Khorakiwalas transformed it into a standalone bakery empire.

Their vision propelled Monginis into a national favorite. By 1971, they launched a franchise model - making the brand both accessible and familiar to Indian neighborhoods. Over time, Monginis grew across India and Egypt, offering eggless cakes, savory snacks, and cherished memories to generations.

Today, Monginis stands as a sweet symbol of multicultural heritage and community joy - its origins as fantastical as the cakes it continues to delight us with.
