DRDO has completed consecutive successful trials of two cutting‑edge missile systems that strengthen India’s conventional deterrence and aerial defence capabilities. Pralay, a solid‑propellant, quasi‑ballistic surface‑to‑surface missile, was tested on July 28 and 29 from APJ Abdul Kalam Island. These trials validated both its maximum and minimum range and demonstrated pinpoint accuracy, confirming it’s ready for induction into the armed forces. With a range of 150–500 km, hypersonic speed up to Mach 6.1, mid-flight maneuverability, and multi‑warhead capability, Pralay augments India’s conventional strike toolkit for rapid battlefield response.
Meanwhile, Akash Prime—an indigenous upgrade to the Akash missile was tested on July 16 in Ladakh. Engineered for high‑altitude defense, it intercepted fast unmanned aerial targets beyond 15,000 feet, validating its active RF seeker and cold‑climate adaptability.
Together, these advances deepen India’s layered defence posture: Pralay supports precision conventional deterrence, while Akash Prime fortifies air defence, especially in challenging terrain. Their augmented capabilities reflect India’s growing self‑reliance and strategic maturity in defence tech.
