India to add skill-based learning in Class 11 & 12: A new era of education!

The Indian government is planning to introduce skill-based learning in Classes 11 and 12, following recommendations from the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, said Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Speaking at IIT Madras, Pradhan emphasized a paradigm shift from certificate-focused learning to competency-based education. Earlier, skill-based subjects were optional, but soon they will become a formal part of the curriculum.

The proposed curriculum will include coding, drone technology, AI learning, and language skills, alongside traditional subjects like Mathematics and Languages. This move aims to prepare students for future careers, making them competent, creative, and industry-ready.

Pradhan also highlighted programs like ‘IITM for All’, helping students from rural and underprivileged backgrounds access IIT Madras and pursue courses like BS Data Science online. The minister praised startups by students and said India now has over 1.75 lakh startups, emphasizing the shift from job seekers to job creators.

This initiative reflects India’s vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, with NEP 2020 acting as a roadmap to skill-driven education and innovation.

Highlights: Skill-based learning, Classes 11–12, coding, AI, drone technology, competency-focused education, IITM for All, startups, NEP 2020.
