Bangladesh's interim government, led by Muhammad Yunus, deployed paramilitary forces at the Dhaka Secretariat on Tuesday as protests over the controversial Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance 2025 entered the fourth day. The new ordinance grants the government sweeping powers to dismiss employees without formal inquiry, triggering massive unrest among civil servants.
Thousands of officials are demanding the immediate repeal of what they call a "black law", chanting slogans like “No compromise, only struggle”. The ordinance allows termination based on a show cause notice alone, bypassing established disciplinary proceedings.
Border Guard Bangladesh, RAB, and SWAT were stationed at key entry points, while the Dhaka Police imposed a ban on gatherings around the Secretariat. Journalists and visitors were barred entry.
The movement has gained urgency amid growing calls for national elections, with fears rising over the country's deteriorating law and order situation under the interim regime.
