BRICS Rally Against Terror, Demand Accountability & Fairness!

At the margins of the UN General Assembly, BRICS nations issued a strong collective message condemning the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 civilians were killed. They described the act as “criminal and unjustifiable,” and reaffirmed that terrorism regardless of motive or perpetrator must not be tolerated.

In their statement, the BRICS ministers called for coordinated global action targeting cross-border movement of terrorists, financing, and safe havens. They also emphasized that counterterrorism efforts must be consistent and fair, rejecting double standards that allow some terror actors to operate with impunity in certain geopolitical contexts.

The declaration positioned state responsibility at the core: nations must act decisively to hold perpetrators and their supporters accountable under national and international law. The BRICS statement also reinforced support for the long-pending Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism under the UN framework to provide a unified legal basis for action.
