Dating app Bumble announced it will lay off approximately 30% of its global workforce, affecting around 240 employees, as the company realigns its operations to focus on strategic priorities.
Bumble's board approved the reduction as the Austin-based firm "realigns its operating structure to optimize execution on its strategic priorities." The company expects to incur $13-18 million in non-recurring charges primarily in Q3 and Q4 2025.
The cuts represent the latest in a dating app industry striving to develop features that will keep users spending amid economic uncertainty. Paradoxically, Bumble shares rallied 25% following the announcement, suggesting investor confidence in the cost-cutting measures.
The layoffs come as dating platforms face mounting pressure to innovate and retain users in an increasingly competitive market while managing operational costs during challenging economic conditions.
