Delhi sizzled at 40.5°C on March 26, 2025, making it the hottest day of the year so far, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The Ridge observatory recorded 40°C, surpassing the previous high of 37.1°C on March 25.
The last time Delhi experienced such extreme heat in March was in 2022, when temperatures peaked at 39.1°C. Humidity levels fluctuated between 19% and 52%, making the heat even more unbearable.
With temperatures soaring early in the season, the IMD has issued heatwave warnings for northern India, predicting double the usual number of heatwave days. Experts expect 10-12 heatwave days this summer, compared to the usual 5-6 days.
As concerns grow over rising temperatures and climate change, Delhiites brace for an intensely hot summer ahead. Will 2025 break 2024's record as India's hottest year?
