Drawing from historical archives and today's national celebrations, February 27–28 highlights India's intellectual sovereignty and the passing of foundational figures.

Significant Historical Milestones

• Discovery of the Raman Effect (1928): Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman officially announced his discovery of the scattering of light, which proved that when light traverses a transparent material, some of the deflected light changes wavelength. This earned him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930, making him the first Asian to receive a Nobel in any branch of science.

• Passing of Rajendra Prasad (1963): India mourned the death of its first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad. A key leader of the Indian Independence Movement and the President of the Constituent Assembly, he served the highest office for 12 years (1950–1962) with unparalleled simplicity and scholarly depth.

• The Vizag Steel Plant Foundation (1979): The foundation stone for the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited) was laid, marking a major step in India's heavy industrialization and self-reliance in the steel sector.

• The 'Kamagata Maru' Resolution (1914): On this day, significant legal battles were unfolding regarding the Kamagata Maru ship, highlighting the global struggle of Indian immigrants against discriminatory colonial laws.
