A four-storey residential building collapsed at around 7 AM on Saturday, July 12, 2025, in the Welcome (Seelampur) area of northeast Delhi, under the jurisdiction of the Welcome Police Station. According to police and city rescue officials, seven fire tenders, Delhi Fire Service, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local police teams responded immediately after a distress call was received.
So far, three to eight people, including a 14-month‑old baby, have been rescued and hospitalized; many more are feared trapped under debris. Rescuers are working manually due to narrow lanes, with locals forming human chains to clear rubble. Eyewitness Asma described a deafening sound before the building pancaked: “A family of 10 lived there... we don’t know how many are trapped.”
This collapse comes a day after a commercial building fell near Azad Market in North Delhi, killing one. Authorities highlight Delhi’s ageing infrastructure, monsoon vulnerabilities, and metro-tunnelling stresses as rising concerns. Investigations into the causes of this collapse will commence once rescue efforts conclude.
Local officials continue to comb through the rubble in hopes of finding more survivors. The lack of access for heavy machinery is slowing operations, but teams remain committed to locating all those trapped beneath the debris.
