Odisha flood crisis: Balasore, Mayurbhanj residents evacuated!

The Odisha government has launched large-scale evacuation and rescue operations in the Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts after floodwaters entered residential areas due to rising water levels in major rivers. Triggered by continuous rainfall in northern Odisha and neighboring Jharkhand, rivers like Subarnarekha, Baitarani, and Budhabalang are flowing above the danger mark.

Authorities have shifted hundreds of residents from low-lying areas to safer locations. Rescue teams, fire services, and ODRAF personnel have been deployed to assist in the evacuation, while relief camps have been set up to provide food and shelter.

According to the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), the administration is on high alert and monitoring embankments and river gauges closely. The Balasore district remains one of the worst affected, with several villages inundated and road connectivity disrupted.

The state has also urged citizens to avoid venturing into floodwaters and to follow official advisories for safety. Relief measures are expected to intensify if rainfall continues in the catchment areas.
