After nearly fifteen years at the helm of Hinge, Justin McLeod is stepping aside to spearhead a bold new venture: Overtone, a fresh dating platform backed by Match Group. The shift marks a decisive move toward integrating generative-AI and voice tools to reimagine how people meet and connect.
In his announcement, McLeod said he was ready for a fresh start — one shaped by changing times, user expectations and a yearning for deeper connection. Under Overtone, AI won’t just fuel matches; it will help users craft more authentic profiles and encourage conversations grounded in context and personality, rather than the shallow swiping culture common today.
At Hinge, leadership now passes to Jackie Jantos, previously President and CMO, who has steered Hinge’s growth among Gen Z and spearheaded its international expansion. The change aims to let Hinge keep growing even as Overtone charts new territory.
With Overtone, Match Group is placing a strategic bet: that the future of online dating lies not in endless swiping, but in thoughtful, AI-guided introductions, real voice-driven chemistry, and meaningful human connection. The experiment could redefine dating norms.
