In a major curriculum shift, NCERT has revamped Class 7 English and Social Science textbooks, removing all chapters related to the Mughals and Delhi Sultanate. Instead, the new editions highlight ancient Indian dynasties like the Mauryas and Shungas, alongside topics such as "Sacred Geography," Maha Kumbh, and national schemes like Make in India and Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao.
The updated Social Science book explores religious pilgrimages, jyotirlingas, and sacred rivers, while the English textbook now features more Indian authors, including Tagore and Kalam. Officials say these changes reflect the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and aim to promote Indian ethos.
However, critics have labeled the move as "saffronisation" of education. The council remains silent on whether removed content will return in future editions. With this shift, NCERT seems focused on blending tradition, nationalism, and modern government narratives in school education.
