Former India opener Sunil Gavaskar didn’t hold back after India’s narrow 22‑run loss to England in the third Test at Lord’s. Speaking on Sony Sports, Gavaskar voiced frustration over the collapse on Day 5 and particularly targeted Ravindra Jadeja, stating the all-rounder could have been more proactive to turn the tide.
“A partnership of 60–70 would have made a difference. Jadeja could have taken the odd chance, not necessarily aerially, but a boundary or two when Root or Bashir were bowling,” Gavaskar remarked. Jadeja’s valiant 61* off 181 balls nearly rescued India from 112/8, but Gavaskar felt a strategic shift might have salvaged the chase.
India’s second straight overseas loss has amplified questions about their conversion under pressure, with criticism falling on senior batters who failed to partner Jadeja effectively. As the series heads to Old Trafford, Gavaskar’s remarks serve as a blunt call for calculated aggression in critical moments.
