In a world full of distractions, Gen Z has found a surprising study hack, watching strangers study online. The viral "Study With Me" trend, which started in South Korea and Japan, features YouTubers livestreaming themselves studying-often silently, with timers, ambient sounds, or aesthetic desk setups.
These sessions mimic cozy library vibes and aim to build focus and consistency. Platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and StudyStream now offer virtual study rooms, where students worldwide can quietly work together and stay accountable.
Some users swear by the Pomodoro method used in these videos, claiming it improves discipline and reduces procrastination. Others enjoy the calm visuals and background noise, which make long study hours feel less lonely.
But not everyone finds it useful. A survey found that 77.8% of students don’t use these videos, saying they’re distracting or create pressure to have a perfect setup.
For many, though, it’s less about deep focus and more about feeling connected in a digital world. Whether a motivation tool or digital companion, “Study With Me” reflects Gen Z’s new way of learning-with calm, community, and a touch of aesthetic.
