Go abroad only if you win scholarships says Chief Justice of India!

Hyderabad, July 12, 2025 – Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai, addressing law graduates at NALSAR University’s convocation, urged students to seek postgraduate studies abroad via scholarships to ease familial financial burden. He emphasized that international exposure is valuable, but should not strain families.

Reflecting on structural issues in India’s judiciary, CJI Gavai described the system as “badly in need of fixing” - citing extreme trial delays, even wrongful long-term undertrial imprisonments. He expressed cautious optimism that India’s best legal minds could tackle challenges like pendency, archaic procedures, and access to justice.

He also recommended students choose mentors based on integrity over power, emphasizing ethical guidance. Prominent attendees included Telangana CM A. Revanth Reddy, Supreme Court Justice P.S. Narasimha, and acting HC Judge Sujoy Paul.
