Golden Feathers is a pioneering circular startup transforming one of the most ignored waste streams — chicken butchery leftovers — into high-value products while creating meaningful livelihoods. Founded in 2019 by designer-entrepreneur Radhesh Agrahari during a postgraduate research project, the venture was born out of a simple idea: tackle pollution caused by wet butchery waste and give it new economic life.
The company’s innovative process collects waste from poultry and butcher shops, then sanitises and repurposes it into a wool-like fibre and handmade paper. These materials are woven into shawls, quilts, stoles and other textiles that blend sustainability with style. Leftover material doesn’t go to waste either — it becomes compost or fish feed, making the model nearly zero-waste.
Golden Feathers’ social impact is equally striking: the enterprise has upcycled over 73 lakh kilograms of chicken waste and consistently trains and employs 10,000+ tribal women, offering dignified work and income through craft-based production. Its products have found customers among major brands and socially conscious buyers, proving that environmental stewardship and profitability can go hand in hand.
By embracing circular design and community empowerment, Golden Feathers demonstrates how deeply entrenched environmental problems can be addressed with creativity and purpose.
