What if cities could predict heatwaves before they hit?

Indian cities are heating up faster than ever - and much of the danger builds silently. From methane trapped inside landfills to concrete-heavy neighbourhoods turning into urban heat islands, rising temperatures often go unnoticed until fires, health emergencies, or pollution spikes occur.
SatLeo Labs, an Indian space-tech startup, is changing that. Using thermal satellites, AI, and drones, the company tracks invisible heat patterns in near real time. Their system detects abnormal temperature behaviour across landfills, industrial zones, and dense neighbourhoods - long before problems become visible.
In Tumkur, Karnataka, the technology helped authorities identify landfill hotspots, methane build-up, and extreme heat pockets across 40 acres of waste land. Instead of reacting to fires or complaints, officials could act early with targeted interventions.
By turning complex satellite data into simple dashboards, SatLeo is helping cities move from reactive firefighting to climate-smart planning - making urban spaces safer, cooler, and more resilient.
