With millions already asking AI for everyday advice, health has become the next big frontier. In January 2026, OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Health, a tool that can analyse medical records, prescriptions, wearable data, and doctor’s notes to answer health-related queries. Rival firm Anthropic offers similar features through Claude.
These tools promise more personalised responses than a simple Google search. They can summarise reports, explain complex test results, and even help users prepare questions before visiting a doctor. But experts warn: AI is not a replacement for professional care.
Serious symptoms like chest pain, breathlessness, or severe headaches should never be handled by a chatbot. Privacy is another concern. Health data shared with AI platforms isn’t protected under HIPAA laws that apply to hospitals and doctors.
Early studies show chatbots can score high on medical tests, yet struggle during real human interactions. For now, AI can guide - but your doctor should decide.
