Himachal Pradesh, July 12, 2025 – Since the monsoon began on June 20, 249 roads have been closed and over 750 water schemes disrupted across the state due to extreme rainfall and landslides, according to the State Emergency Operations Centre. The torrential weather has wreaked havoc, claiming 92 lives—56 in rain-related incidents and 36 in road accidents—and injuring 172 people, with 33 still missing.
The relentless monsoon has caused widespread destruction - 31 flash floods, 22 cloudbursts, and 17 landslides - resulting in approximately ₹750 crore in infrastructure damage, including disrupted power and water systems. Mizoram and other districts like Mandi, Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Shimla, and Sirmaur remain on high alert. Rescue teams from the ITBP, NDRF, SDRF, and local administration are working around the clock, using drones to locate missing persons amid dangerous terrain.
The situation remains precarious: the weather office has issued a yellow alert through July 18, warning of continuing heavy rain and flash flood risks. Restoration and relief operations are ongoing, with local officials urging residents to avoid travel in vulnerable areas.
