ICC reprimands Rishabh Pant for dissent over ball decision at Headingley!

India's vice-captain Rishabh Pant was officially reprimanded by the ICC after an incident during Day 3 of the Headingley Test against England, where he showed visible dissent at an umpire’s decision . The controversy erupted in the 61st over of England’s first innings when Pant asked for a ball change, but after inspection with a ball gauge, umpires declined his request. In frustration, he threw the ball onto the ground in front of the officials - a breach of Article 2.8, covering “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision” .

Match referee Richie Richardson adjudged the conduct a Level 1 Code of Conduct violation, resulting in an official reprimand and one demerit point, his first in 24 months. Because Pant admitted the offence and accepted the sanction, no formal hearing was needed.

Level 1 breaches carry penalties ranging from a reprimand and up to 50% match-fee fine. Accumulating four demerit points within 24 months could lead to suspension . The incident stands as a reminder: even elite players must respect on-field decisions and maintain discipline.
