Punjab Police have arrested 26‑year‑old Amritpal Singh Dhillon, an NRI who recently returned from Canada, in connection with last Monday’s fatal hit‑and‑run that killed Fauja Singh, the celebrated 114‑year‑old marathon runner known as the “Turbaned Tornado”. The accident occurred on Jalandhar‑Pathankot Highway near Bias village, where Singh was struck by a white Toyota Fortuner while on his routine walk.
Eyewitnesses said the impact tossed the centenarian 5–7 feet into the air; he succumbed later that evening from severe head injuries. Police traced the vehicle using CCTV footage and fragments of the SUV’s headlights at the scene . The Fortuner, previously owned by a Kapurthala resident, was seized after Dhillon admitted purchasing it recently .
Dhillon faces charges of rash driving and culpable homicide under Sections 281 and 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. His arrest has drawn nationwide attention and condemnation. Prime Minister Modi and Punjab Chief Minister Mann have hailed Singh’s life as a testament to resilience and inspiration for youth fitness. Authorities continue the investigation into this tragic loss.
