The Ministry of Defence (MoD) of India has officially denied recent Reuters reports that suggested India had put on hold plans to procure new weapons and aircraft from the United States. The exclusive Reuters story had claimed that India paused multi-billion-dollar deals involving Boeing P-8I surveillance aircraft, Stryker combat vehicles, and Javelin anti-tank missiles amid escalating trade tensions.
However, the MoD clarified that these reports are inaccurate and no formal decision has been taken to halt any defense procurement from the U.S. The Ministry emphasized that defense cooperation remains strong and ongoing, with negotiations continuing as planned.
The Reuters report had linked the alleged pause to new tariffs imposed by the U.S. on Indian goods, but the Ministry stressed that strategic and defense ties are not impacted by trade disputes. Officials reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral defense relationships and continuing modernization efforts.
