Novo Nordisk has introduced Wegovy, a once-weekly injectable semaglutide, in India to combat obesity, a growing epidemic affecting 254 million Indians.
As a GLP-1 receptor agonist, Wegovy targets brain areas to regulate appetite, reduce hunger, enhance satiety, and curb cravings, promoting significant weight loss.
It also lowers cardiovascular risks by 20% and improves insulin resistance.
Clinical trials show one in three users achieves at least 20% weight loss when combined with a low-calorie diet and exercise.
Available in five strengths-0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 1.7 mg, and 2.4 mg-Wegovy uses an easy-to-use pen device.
The monthly cost for the first three doses is ₹17,345, while 1.7 mg costs ₹24,280, and 2.4 mg is ₹26,050.
Vikrant Shrotriya, Managing Director of Novo Nordisk India, emphasized its role in addressing India’s obesity crisis. Consult a doctor before use, as Wegovy is prescription-only.
