The Haryana government has taken strong measures to handle the “Dilli Chalo” protest call by farmer groups from Punjab. The farmers are marching toward Delhi from the Shambhu border near Ambala, demanding legal assurance for Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their crops and other issues.
To manage the situation, the government has banned public gatherings of five or more people in Ambala, Kaithal, Jind, Fatehabad, and Sirsa districts. Internet and SMS services, except for banking and voice calls, were also stopped in 11 villages in Ambala to keep the peace.
Ambala Deputy Commissioner Parth Gupta explained that these steps aim to prevent unrest. Sumita Misra, Haryana’s Additional Chief Secretary (Home), added that these rules were necessary to stop possible damage to property and ensure public safety. To strengthen security, 15 teams of Central Armed Police Forces have been deployed in key areas.
The Haryana government has asked farmers to talk to a Supreme Court-formed committee instead of protesting. Officials have also said there are no confirmed plans for protests from the Khanauri border, but security is tight at both Shambhu and Khanauri.
In another step to ensure safety, all schools in Ambala were closed on Friday. This decision follows earlier protests in the year when police action at the Shambhu border led to the death of a young farmer from Punjab.
The government is focused on keeping the peace and is urging farmers to solve the issues through discussion. These measures show an effort to balance public safety with the concerns of the farmers.
