On January 7, 2025, Union Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled the Bharatpol portal in New Delhi, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at transforming how India's law enforcement agencies tackle international crime. Developed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Bharatpol is set to revolutionize communication between various law enforcement bodies, including state police forces, by providing them with real-time access to Interpol's resources.
What is Bharatpol?
Bharatpol is a centralized online platform that allows Indian law enforcement agencies to send and receive information related to fugitives and international criminal investigations. Previously, only the CBI had access to such crucial tools, but now, all agencies can connect seamlessly with Interpol to request assistance on cases involving criminals who may be hiding abroad.
How Will Bharatpol Benefit India?
- Better Coordination: With Bharatpol, communication between central and state police will become much smoother. This means quicker responses and less red tape when it comes to tackling crime across borders.
- Faster Access to Information: The portal enables law enforcement to quickly obtain vital information about fugitives, which is increasingly important as crimes like cybercrime and human trafficking become more prevalent.
- Training and Support: The CBI will provide training for police personnel on how to effectively use Bharatpol, ensuring that everyone is equipped to make the most of this powerful tool.
- Global Reach: By enhancing international cooperation, Bharatpol aims to bring back criminals who have escaped justice in India, ensuring they face the consequences of their actions no matter where they are.
At the launch, Amit Shah highlighted that Bharatpol represents a new chapter in India’s fight against international crime. It’s not just about catching criminals; it’s about creating a safer environment for everyone by leveraging technology and collaboration. This initiative promises to strengthen the fabric of law enforcement in India and make our communities safer for all citizens.
