India's stellar squad! Five young Astronomers gear up for IOAA 2025

A crop of five exceptionally talented students has been chosen to represent India at the 18th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA), taking place in Mumbai from August 11–21, 2025 . The selection followed an intense Orientation‑cum‑Selection Camp (OCSC) held at IISER Mohali, where nearly 500 participants were narrowed down to 54 semifinalists, and then 37 for advanced training .

During the camp, these young minds underwent a rigorous curriculum - spanning lectures, problem-solving sessions, telescope handling, and night sky observations - designed to sharpen both theoretical understanding and practical skills . Organized jointly by HBCSE‑TIFR Mumbai and IISER Mohali, the initiative spotlights India's investment in scientific excellence. Students delved into astrophysical data analysis and honed their observational acumen under expert mentorship.

Representing the nation on home turf, these students carry huge expectations. Their participation not only showcases individual brilliance but also reflects India’s growing prominence in nurturing stellar talent in astronomy and astrophysics. As the world watches, this bright team will aim not just to compete—but to inspire.
