In a unique tribute to India’s Operation Sindoor, a high-profile cricket match - Operation Sindoor Cup - was organized on June 29 at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur, featuring teams from the Indian Army (Army XI) and a Parliament XI comprised of MPs and legislators.
The Cup was conceptualized to honour the successful cross-border strikes launched on May 7, targeting terrorist infrastructure linked to groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba in response to the Pahalgam terror attack . The custom-designed trophy - adorned with a cricket bat, BrahMos missile, and Rafale fighter jet - symbolizes a powerful fusion of sportsmanship, defense strategy, and national strength.
Brigadier Samrul Hassan captained the Army XI, while MP Manoj Tiwari led the Parliament XI. The event was lauded by BJP MP Ramesh Awasthi as a symbol of unity and resolve, sending a message of national solidarity following the operation.
This sporting gesture comes on the heels of official statements marking Operation Sindoor as a clear success - praising indigenous weapons, naval strength, and strategic restraint. As the season of cricket rolls on, this match stands out as a blend of patriotism and sportsmanship.
